Overview
In Gacha Life, Non-Playable Characters (NPCs) are characters found in specific locations within Life Mode. Unlike the player’s customizable character, NPCs remain stationary in designated spots. By tapping on an NPC, players can initiate conversations with them. NPCs are integral to the game, serving as interactive elements that allow players to build friendships and unlock various features.
On page 11 of Life Mode, there are two empty spots, indicating that no more NPCs are currently available. Additionally, three special portals each house an NPC, but accessing these portals requires the player to be Level 100 or higher. Some NPCs, such as M o and M u u, can only be unlocked by entering specific codes after walking to certain spots. Once unlocked, players can access a room where they can interact with these exclusive NPCs.
NPCs are characters controlled by the game’s system through coding. They are not playable by the player, meaning you cannot directly take control of these characters. However, players can interact with NPCs to build friendships, which opens up various gameplay options. NPCs can be found across different locations in Life Mode and offer unique opportunities to engage with the game.
When interacting with NPCs, players can gradually build their friendship level by using stamina for specific actions. At Level 2 friendship, the NPC is added to the player’s Friendship Status list, and the "Ask" option becomes available. This option consumes 3 stamina and randomly displays information about the NPC, which is critical for answering quiz questions later.
At Level 3, the “Gift” option unlocks. Players can give gifts from their gacha inventory to NPCs for 5 stamina each. The amount of friendship XP gained depends on the star level of the gift, ranging from 10 points for one-star gifts to 500 points for six-star gifts. If the gift is the NPC's favorite, the points are doubled.
Once a friendship reaches Level 5, the "Quiz" option becomes available. The quiz consists of ten questions based on the information gathered through the “Ask” feature. Each correct answer rewards 10 friendship XP, and completing the quiz grants an additional 500 XP, totaling 600 XP for a perfect quiz. However, if the player gets three answers wrong, the quiz ends without the completion reward. Players can retake quizzes as long as they have enough stamina.
At Level 10 friendship, the player gains the ability to quick travel to the NPC directly from the Friendship Status list, making it easier to interact with them.
Interaction
When a player taps or clicks on a non-playable character (NPC), a conversation begins. The NPC's name appears in the top left corner of the speech bubble, while the 'X' button on the top right exits the conversation. At the bottom of the speech bubble, the Friendship Level and progress needed for the next level are displayed.
Below the Friendship Level, there are four interaction options: Talk, Ask, Gift, and Quiz. At the very bottom are three star icons—two smaller ones and a larger one. The first star, marked "Lv3," brightens once the Friendship Level reaches 3. The second star, labeled "Quiz," unlocks upon completing the quiz. The third star, labeled "Lv10," is unlocked at Friendship Level 10. On the right side of the screen, the NPC is shown, while the left side displays the player's character.
Talk
The Talk option is available to all players by default and requires no prerequisites to unlock. It is often the only available interaction if the player has never spoken to the NPC or if the Friendship Level is below 2. Using Talk requires 2 Stamina and increases friendship points by 4 to 9. This interaction helps players build relationships with NPCs, making them friendlier over time. NPCs can be found in various locations across the map.
Ask
The Ask option becomes available once the Friendship Level with an NPC reaches 2. This interaction requires 3 Stamina and can increase friendship points by 6 to 15. Asking NPCs questions often provides useful information, such as clues or answers for the Quiz option. Players are encouraged to read the dialogue carefully, as rushing through it might result in missing valuable details. For instance, an NPC might reveal their birthday, which could later be a Quiz question. This option enriches the player's understanding of the NPC and their world.
Gift
The Gift option unlocks at Friendship Level 3. Giving gifts requires 5 Stamina and offers varying friendship point bonuses based on the gift's star level. One-star gifts provide 10 points, two-star gifts give 20 points, and so on, with six-star gifts offering a significant 500-point boost. Each NPC has a favorite gift, which doubles the friendship points earned and triggers special dialogue. However, six-star gifts always grant 500 points regardless of preferences. Players can track available gifts in their inventory and refer to the Items page for more details.
Quiz
The Quiz option unlocks at Friendship Level 5 and allows players to answer an NPC’s quiz for rewards. Each quiz consists of multiple-choice questions based on information gathered from the Ask dialogue. Players have three chances to answer correctly; failing all three ends the quiz without a reward. Successfully answering all questions grants additional friendship points. It is recommended not to skip through Ask dialogues, as they often contain essential hints for quizzes. Quiz is the final interaction option available after unlocking Talk, Ask, and Gift.
Stamina
Stamina is a resource used to interact with NPCs. At level 1, the player's maximum stamina is 200. As players level up, the maximum stamina increases by 5 for each level. For example, at level 100, the maximum stamina is 695. Stamina regenerates slowly over time while the player is idle in Life Mode. Alternatively, purchasing Gacha with Gems offers a quicker way to recover stamina, with each purchase restoring 1 to 5 stamina points. Higher-level players benefit from a larger stamina pool, allowing for more interactions and quicker progress in building relationships.
